Yo DJ! (10) Featuring P-Nyce

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

As with any business, networking can often be the key to success. Cameron Wright AKA DJ P-Nyce knows this all too well. Often booking quality over quantity gigs and playing with some of the nation’s finest including Diplo, Dave Nada, and Tittsworth, the self described Dilla-head is known for his unique house party style, helping to bring the Baltimore Club sound that he grew up with to the masses of the 3rd Coast. He often takes his love for jazz and blues as inspiration and sites James Brown as his biggest influence. His deep roots in Baltimore Club and hip hop have led P-Nyce to create a unique sound all his own. With a fresh website and marking takeover on the rise and booking lots of national gigs, as well as ones in his current town of Austin, TX, P-Nyce is one to keep an eye out for.

Ladies and Gents, meet P-Nyce!

Lindsay Lohan Teams Up with Woody Allen

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Some may say a Lindsay Lohan and Woody Allen move would be disastrous, others may claim genius. Let’s let film decide.Woody Allen is known for creating characters in his own likeness: manic, a bit jagged, definitely ego-driven, which may not be the right fit for Lindsay Lohan, but if Woody Allen has the final say, we may be seeing a career revival in the works.

The two were spotted having dinner in New York City Saturday night along with Allen’s wife and singer/producer Ryan Leslie. Fresh off the announcement that Lindsay will play Elizabeth Taylor, the timing may be just right.

Woody Allen is in pre-production for his latest feature staring Bradley Cooper. Only time will tell what these two powerhouses are cooking up.

Would Lindsay make the perfect Allen character?

It’s days like today that I can say I am proud to be a New Yorker. The foundation for New York being the ultimate come-back kid since the tragic events on September 11, 2001 have now been laid. This morning, workers put in the steel beams that will make One World Trade Center, the building that serves as a monument to that day, reach 1250 feet. That is the height of the highest observation deck of the Empire State Building, which is currently the tallest building in Manhattan.

The project’s completion won’t be at least for another year and then will be over 1750 feet. Once done, the “Freedom Tower” will be the second tallest building in the US.

Issa Rae Talks Being Awkward and Black

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

I have told y’all in the past how much I adore Issae Rae and her Youtube sensation series “Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.” This real life “awkward black girl” raised nearly 60 grand on kickstarter.com to keep her low budget web series afloat and now has taken her skills to campuses around the country, talking on the series, the cast, and its success.

Rae sat down with CNN recently to discuss what it’s like being an akward black girl and when primetime might be ready for J and her daily happenings. Read More→

Gotye Was Not Impressed by “Glee” Cast Cover

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I am sure this comes as surprise to most of the world, but not so much to me as I have not really ever jumped on the “Glee” train. Indie electro artist Gotye was not feeling the April 10th performance of his hit song “Somebody That I Used to Know.”

Gotye expressed his disappointment over the weekend. “They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals, but the vocals were that pop “Glee” style, ultra dry,” he told the Mail. “[It] sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box.” He also added to the Herald Sun that “it made it sound dinky and wrong.”

Do you agree with Gotye?

Usher and David Guetta Are at it Again

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

If you were lucky enough to attend Coachella, you probably were blown away by David Guetta and Usher’s live performance of “Without You.” The track that brought massive success to the duo last year and launched Usher as a certified electro artist is now getting a run for its money. The pair is at it again, and from what Guetta suggested, we should be super excited.

“These are really big records that we’re working on right now. It’s really crazy.”

Also, Guetta was as shocked as his audience at Coachella when Usher decided to sing with him. Guetta thought he was just coming to party, but instead, he performed. Watch the performance below.

Do you think they can top this with their next hit?

“Girls” Bringing The Sex Back In the City

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

If you haven’t been in a slump since “Sex and the City” ended in 2004, you probably aren’t female. Have no fear, though, a new crop of ladies are taking over your Sunday night cravings, and shockingly ”Girls” is being compared to “Sex and the City.” The similarities are that they are both based in New York City and follow a group of girls and their sexcapades. Unlike the Bradshaw era, these girls are in ther mid 20s and are discovering careers, financial obstacles, and exploring new opportunities in an unknown city. The main character, Hannah, played by writer and director Leah Dunham is not only on a discovery of her place in New York as a recent college grad but as someone who is trying to figure out who she is sexually and emotionally while trying to balance out life in the real world. Judd Apatow is producing. It’s funny, it’s catchy and highly relatable for anyone trying to find their way when their parents cut them off.
